Ozone breaks down the molecules that cause a smell instead of covering them with a fragrance. It is used where ordinary cleaning is not enough: after smokers, after animals, after flooding and mould, in a flat left by tenants, or in a car that has stood unused. Depending on the area the treatment takes one to three hours, we offer a slot within 24 hours and the price is fixed.
The space is closed up, the generator is switched on and people and pets have to leave — ozone at working concentration irritates the airways. Afterwards the room is aired for about an hour and is then usable without restriction. Plants and food must be taken out. It pays to clean the space first: on dirt the smell simply forms again and the effect lasts a shorter time.
In flats we most often treat after previous tenants and after renovation, when the smell of adhesives and lacquers lingers. In offices and commercial premises it suits spaces after flooding, or those with air conditioning where the smell sits in the ducts. In cars the whole interior is treated including the ventilation, because that is usually where the source is.
Ozone is a gas that decays back into oxygen after the treatment, so once aired there is no residue and no film on surfaces — unlike chemical fogging. Before we arrive, take out plants, food kept outside the fridge and medicines, open cupboard doors and drawers so the gas reaches inside, and make sure nobody can enter during the treatment.
It does not remove the cause. If mould grows in the bathroom because of damp, ozone deals with the smell but the mould returns until the ventilation is fixed. It will not remove stains from upholstery either — that is a job for extraction cleaning. We say so in advance if we can see on site that ozone alone will not solve the problem.
