The kitchen is the room where the difference between "tidied" and "cleaned" shows. A routine clean covers the units from the outside, the sink and the hob; everything inside the appliances is ordered separately because it takes its own time. An oven is 319 CZK, an extractor hood 319 CZK, a microwave 165 CZK, and the fridge is quoted by its state. The price is fixed: if the oven needs an hour and a half instead of an hour, the amount does not change.
In panel flats on Košutka, in Bolevec or on Vinice the kitchens are small and the appliances sit close together, so grease clings in places nobody normally looks — the side of the units, the edge of the hood, the wall behind the cooker. In the new builds on Bory glossy fronts dominate and every stroke of a cloth shows; they are washed with lukewarm water and a drop of detergent and, above all, polished dry. In older flats in the town centre there is often an original unit with wooden doors, where water must not be overdone.
Top down and dry before wet. The hood and the upper cupboards first, then the units and the appliances, and the sink and floor last — otherwise loosened grease is carried across surfaces that are already clean. The oven is left to soak: the product needs time, so it goes on at the start and is finished towards the end of the visit. The hood filter is soaked in hot water rather than scraped, so the aluminium mesh is not bent out of shape.
Most often before a flat is handed over, after a long stretch without cleaning, and before the holidays. In the rentals around the campus on Bory the kitchen is done at every change of tenant, because it shows more than any other room how the flat was lived in. The oven and the hood are worth ordering together: the product works on both at once and the crew does not have to come twice.
The top edge of the cupboards and the space above the hood, where greasy dust settles. The wall behind the cooker, if it can be pulled out. The fridge seal, which holds moisture. The trap under the sink, which is the usual source of a smell people then hunt for elsewhere. And the shelves inside the cupboards: emptying and washing them is not part of the base clean but can be added.
